How can Kaplan help you!

Hello, everyone. My name is Lyndsey and today I have a short and sweet segment about being a Kaplan student. This podcast will focus more on how being a parent can be very struggling but rewarding, because we all know that we want to sometimes lock ourselves in a bedroom with our computer so we can just focus. Just breathe and not listen to the mom I need this or mom I know you are busy but.. or even better when your spouse chimes in. I won’t lie. I want to pull my hair out at times. But other times.. I think how amazing that I get the opportunity to better my life and have the support of my little two year old and my great boyfriend. Kaplan is a great school to attend because it works around YOU. Whenever you can get time in to squeeze in those assignments and discussions. The teachers provide great resources and of course you have fellow class mates that are going through the same but slightly different path you are going on too. That’s the great thing about it all, I can laugh in discussions or side chats or emails with my fellow peers about how our little one spilled her milk, be right back. We all get it. We are tired but we are focused. We want to graduate but boy that couch looks comfy and my eye lids are inviting. Kaplan does a great job of understanding the student and I really think that parents have the opportunity to bond and form relationships here to help with the process during and after school.

I don't have time!

A great blog that I follow gave some helpful hints. I definitely advise checking the entire blog. It is a great article on balancing life of being a mother and going to work. I know I dealt personally with guilt of leaving her. Below are the 7 tips they give. The website is listed below!

7 Tips on Finding a Balance Between Work and Motherhood:

1. Raising children only comes once in a lifetime.

2. Be proactive and creative. Many supervisors are open to considering creative solutions when they are presented, but will not be so conscious as to offer them unasked.

3. Absolve yourself of "mommy guilt." You are doing the best that you can.

4. A desire for a career does not make you a bad mother, nor does a desire for work/life balance make you a bad employee.

5. If you have a partner, ask them for their help and unconditional support.

6. Find a community of mothers who also work outside the home. So much mom support is based on the stay-at-home crowd, and while some of our issues are the same, some are very different.

7. Even if support and a listening ear is all this community can offer, it can be helpful to know that other women are experiencing the very same issues that you are.

Blogging tips for pics!

When adding pictures be safe when showing kids! Avoid school names or locations if close to home! Also - be personable but appropriate! Remember anyone can see these!! :) Another great tip is to add them where it flows well with your page. Also try filtering them for fun effects!

Kids eat free? Say what!?

I hate paying $6 for my kid to eat a whole 8 bites maybe... well check local websites for family info! My community has a link for what restaurants let kids eat free! Usually if you can search in our browser "kids eat free in (your city)" and a website will pop up. Definitely nice when you are on a budget but want to splurge a bit! Save your money parents!
